Dear Libby,
Today you are SIX years old. How can my tiny baby possibly be six?! You are such an amazing girl. I love you, and am so proud of you. I got to eat lunch with you at school today. Tonight we'll go out for dinner, and then have cake and open presents at home. You had three friends over for a fancy party last weekend. You had a great time.
Kindergarten is flying by. You are learning to read, and it is just AMAZING to listen to you! You're sounding out words, and doing so well. You played soccer this fall, and you've been in ballet all fall too. Your recital was a couple weeks ago, and it was adorable. Your class were "fairy godmothers in training" in the Cinderella ballet. I love to see how much you love to dance. You're so graceful, and I can't wait to see you continue to dance dance dance in the future. You and Liam will start piano lessons after winter break, which should be exciting! I have a feeling you'll love it... but we'll see.
Christmas is coming up soon. I just have this sneaking suspicion that Santa is going to bring you exactly what you asked for. It's going to be a great Christmas, and a great break from school and the usual busy routine.
I love you, sweetheart. No matter what, you'll always be my baby.
Love,
Mommy

Almost time for kindergarten!
Dear Libby,
In less than a month, you will be in kindergarten. How is that possible?! You're still my baby! I can't believe how fast time is flying. The summer will be done before we know it. You've been going to Y camp and also gymnastics camp. Right now, you're in the middle of your first big trip (with Liam) to stay with Grandma and Grandpa. I've talked to you through FaceTime, and you're having so much fun and are so busy you hardly even come to the phone. You're enjoying the kittens at Grandma's house, and enjoying spending time with Uncle David, who is spending much of the time there with you and Liam. After we get you next weekend, in Kansas City, you'll have just one more week of camp. Then, we'll have a week off before school starts. We will do LOTS of fun things that week!
You lost your first tooth a couple weeks ago. You lost it at Y camp... but you have no idea when or where! I'm guessing that you swallowed it at lunchtime, but who knows. Luckily, the tooth fairy stopped by our house, even though the tooth wasn't there. And she left you two quarters, which was very exciting!
You played baseball this spring, just like Liam. Daddy was your coach, and you had such a fun time. We still aren't sure if you throw right or left... but I'm thinking you'll figure it out before next season.
It's almost time for ballet to start again, and soccer too. You decided to skip tap this fall. You'd really like to take piano lessons, but I think we might wait a bit longer, until after you're into the kindergarten routine.
I love you so much, sweetheart!
Love,
Mommy

Yikes- one year!
Dear Libby,
Wow! Mommy has been a bad letter-writer! Somehow, I've just forgotten about this for almost a year. I have no excuse, other than life simply getting in the way. Life is just... busy. Helping Liam with homework in the evenings, taking him to baseball practices and games, taking both of you to soccer, dealing with everything else that life throws at us... I just truly let this slip. I will try to be better in the future!
In the last year, you got glasses (in January). You got your ears pierced. You started staying dry at night (and have now been dry at night for probably about six months). You started at a new preschool (at Liam's big kid school!) in August, so you made all new friends. You played soccer during the fall. You know most of your alphabet by sight, and can write them all. It's been quite a year.
You're still totally Mommy's girl, and I'm still totally okay with that. I love spending time with you. You're my favorite girl in the whole wide world.
Your fifth birthday, and Christmas are both coming soon. I have NO idea how in the world you're almost five. That just doesn't seem possible. You're my baby! You want an American Girl Welliewisher doll, and I have a feeling that Santa will bring you one. You're really love cats, unicorns, horses, dolls, anything pink, My Little Pony, dancing, and art.
You amaze me every day, sweet girl. I love you to the moon and back.
Love,
Mommy

FOUR!
Dear Libby,
You are now FOUR years old! How did this happen?! You have been practicing how to hold up four fingers for weeks and weeks, and you can finally show people that you are FOUR. You just keep getting taller and and more beautiful every day. I had the chance to really look at your eyes yesterday, and they're a gorgeous shade of grey, unlike anything I've seen. I don't know where in the world you got those beautiful eyes. I'm amazed that I made such a gorgeous girl. Ha! But you're also kind and beautiful on the inside. I know that your friends at school all love you, and that your teachers do to.
Christmas is less than a week away, and I know that you're very excited. Santa will be bringing you exactly what you've asked for. I just hope you really love it, and that you play play play all Christmas day. Your imagination is amazing. I swear you can sit in your room and carry on conversations with toys for hours if I let you. You are loving playing with the dollhouse Grandma and Grandpa got you for your birthday, and I love hearing the way you play with your toys using it. Everyone is welcome in your dollhouse- Disney princesses, My Little Ponies, knights, dinosaurs, Power Rangers, etc.
You are turning into an awesome little person, and I love it.
I love you, sweet girl,

Summer's almost over!
Dear Libby,
You have had a great summer! We went to lots of baseball games (Liam's, of course), we went to the pool a lot, we went to the park a lot, we went to Wisconsin to visit your cousin Eleanor (who is kind of obsessed with you), and we did lots of fun things around town.
We had 6 days off together last week/this week while your teachers got ready for new kids to transition into your classroom. You're now back at school, and the classroom is totally different! There are lots of new kids for you to play with. This has all been a bit tiring for you and you are definitely having some big emotions lately! This morning you were SO tired, and did NOT want to get up. I had to wrestle you into your clothes and practically drag you to the kitchen, where you then dawdled eating your waffle. We finally had to go, even though you didn't finish eating. You cried all the way to the car, where I put you into your seat without even putting your shoes on. When we got to school, you told your teacher, "I'm frustrated and tired and can't calm my body, so I'm going to go lie down on the couch." Oh, my heart. You have so many emotions, and it's just so hard to deal with them when you are so tired!
You have definitely grown over the summer. When we picked Liam up at the end of his first day of school earlier this week, we walked up to the door, and you could reach the buzzer! At the end of the school year in May, you couldn't reach it! You are getting so tall, and we're buying your clothes in the "girl" side of the store now! No more "toddler" clothes for you!
I love you!

Mommy

Such a big girl!
Dear Libby,
You are such a big girl all of a sudden! You can ride your tricycle, you can pump your legs on the swings, you can get dressed all by yourself, you can zip your jacket... it all just amazes me. You are absolutely not a baby anymore. You'll always be MY baby, of course, but you definitely aren't a baby. You let me know that quite often too, by telling me that you're a big girl. I know you are, sweetheart!
You love going to school and playing with your friends each day. You love dance class, and gymnastics, and music class. You love being outside and getting dirty. You love reading books, and you convince me to read way more than just the three that I tell you to pick out each night before bed.
You are sleeping pretty well. If you wake up during the night, usually you just want me to re-cover you up, or pick up your lovie from the floor. You do end up in bed with me some mornings, but I'm totally fine with that. I'd rather have you get in bed with me at 5:30, and then sleep another hour, as opposed to you just getting up at 5:30, and then being tired later in the day. You're still napping at daycare.
You love your big brother. Earlier this week, you told me that you wished that you could have brown hair like Liam. I know you want to be just like him, and you want to play with him and be included. That won't always happen, because Liam needs his alone time, just like you do too. I do love the rare moments when you two actually play together, and get along for a while.
I love you, my sweet girl.
Love,
Mommy
