One year old!

Dear Libby,
I can hardly believe it, but you are one year old now! Your birthday was on Friday the 13th. You ate two big slices of cake, and LOVED it. You got Violet (a stuffed dog) for your present from us.

Your one year photo shoot was on Saturday morning. It didn't go so well. You wouldn't sit still, at all, for pictures with Liam. You sat for some pictures by yourself, but you kept sticking your tongue out much of the time. You freaked out when I brought out the smash cake. You loved cake on Friday night, but were NOT a fan on Saturday morning! You wanted nothing to do with that cake. You wouldn't touch it at all. You cried and cried. I nursed you, and then brought you back out to try again, but you wouldn't even let me put you down. I finally put you down for a nap.. and it ended up being a FIVE hour nap. What in the world?! You've never napped that long in your life! Poor girl! Since it really only ended up being like half of a photo shoot, the photographer didn't charge me full price. Hopefully we'll get at least a few good pictures of your sweet, beautiful little face.

I'm taken back, in my mind, to your birth so often. You came into the world quickly. I went from 3 cm to a baby in my arms in 2 hours and 18 minutes. After you were born, the doctor said that the birth had been fast and furious. Man, was she right. When you want to do something, there's no stopping you!

I love watching you grow. You amaze me every day, sweet girl. I know you're going to start walking very soon. I'm so excited to see it! I can't wait to spend this holiday season with you. Amazingly, you haven't touched the Christmas tree at all, but you do seem to like to look at the lights. I can't wait to see you open presents, and to see you get your first doll.

I love you so much. You'll always be my baby.

Love,
Mommy

No more bottles!

Dear Libby,
Yesterday was your first day of no bottles at school! Your teachers said you had a great day! You're spending most of your time in the toddler room now, where there are no more bottles, but rather just sippy cups. I've been phasing out pumped breastmilk, and phasing in cow's milk, so you're ready. I can hardly believe that this time has come already. I'm not ready for you to be a big girl! But, I am ready to be done pumping. I have to say that I'm really proud of myself for getting through two kids with no formula. Pumping was sometimes a struggle, but it was so worth it, baby girl. I'm not quite done with pumping at work yet. I think I'll pump just once a day for the next week or two, and then be done.

We went to Auntie Cari's house for an early Thanksgiving over the weekend. Everyone from my side of the family was there. It was such a fun time, and you were such a good girl in the car. I know that everybody loved getting to see you. You chowed down on the Thanksgiving food. You are such an amazing eater. So very much the opposite of your big brother!

I can hardly believe that your birthday is only two weeks away! NOT POSSIBLE!

Love you,
Mommy

My big girl

Dear Libby,
This weekend, I had a quick glimpse of you as a big girl. I was nursing you, and something about the way your hair was curling on the ends, and starting to cover your ear... and the way I saw your precious little profile... Gah. I don't know... you just looked like a little girl, instead of a baby. I know it was one of those moments I'll never forget.

You've been having problems sleeping for the last week. You'll fall asleep just fine, but then the second I put you down, you pop back up. It's taking forever to get you to fall asleep and stay asleep once you're in your bed. Many nights I've had to bring you to our bed, where you then end up sleeping on my chest... and I then get no more sleep. Oh well. You're worth it, baby.

Your first tooth popped through about a week ago. You haven't bitten me. Well, at least not yet. I'm sure you will sooner or later! You haven't let the lack of teeth stop you from eating pretty much everything put in front of you. I'm amazed by how much you eat. You're starting to nurse less and less, and at daycare you aren't finishing your bottles. Your teachers have said that you'll drink an ounce or two, and then you'll literally throw the bottle on the floor. You silly girl!

Today is your first day wearing shoes. Well, they're hardly even shoes- just soft soled leather shoes. But, they're adorable. You're going to be walking in no time.

Love you, sweet girl,
Mommy

Nine months old!

Dear Libby,
HOW IN THE WORLD ARE YOU NINE MONTHS OLD ALREADY?!!!!!! Seriously, time is flying, and I don't like it! I know that the next three months are going to fly by too, and suddenly it will be your birthday. Unbelievable.

I took you to the doctor for your nine month appointment this morning. You just smiled and squealed the whole time. You didn't make a peep when the nurse did the blood draw from your big toe. You only cried for about 3 seconds after you had your flu shot. You are a rock star, girl! I then took you to daycare, where you squealed and crawled away from me to play with your little friends. I love how easygoing and happy you are. I hope you continue to be that way, my sweet girl.

You're 18 lbs 4 oz, which is between the 25th and 50th percentile. Your height is also between the 25th and 50th percentile... but your head was between the 50th and 75th percentile. Your head just seems so huge to me. Liam's head and weight were always around the 5th percentile, so you just seem gigantic! But, really, you're smaller than "average." Crazy.

You go to bed very early every evening, usually by 6 o'clock. Many days at daycare, you nap just once, and oftentimes for only 20-30 minutes. Crazy girl! No wonder you're tired! When we get home, I try to give you something for dinner, and you usually end up fussy and ready to go to bed before you're even done. Poor thing.

I love you so much, sweetheart.

Love,
Mommy

To my dear, sweet girl

Dear Libby,
I have FINALLY gotten around to putting together a blog for you! I have kept a blog of letters to Liam for years now, and am just now getting around to doing this for you. You are 8.5 months old, and you are just the sweetest, calmest baby ever. I can't even begin to count how many times I kiss your squishy cheeks each day. You are pretty low maintenance and low key most of the time. You really just go with the flow.

You started sitting up at 5 months, crawling at 6 months, and standing up (along things) sometime last month. You are cruising along the furniture now, and I have a feeling it won't be too much longer before you start walking. You still don't have any teeth! I recently looked at old pictures, and at this point Liam had 6 teeth! However, you aren't letting the lack of teeth stop you from eating real food! You love to eat! You've always been a bigger eater than Liam ever was, from the very beginning. I've struggled all along to pump enough milk for you, but as of now, you are still getting all breastmilk at daycare, and I'm very proud of that. You'll never have any idea how much I've struggled for you, to provide you with my milk.

You go to daycare each day, and have fun in the infant room. So far, you don't have any stranger anxiety. You do definitely love Mommy though! When I pick you up each afternoon, you see me and squeal, and crawl to me very quickly. Sometimes at home, you'll cry or whine when I leave the room... but stop the second I come back in. You are such a faker sometimes!

You slept in the rock 'n play sleeper next to my bed until you were almost 6 months old. You then slept in the pack and play for a couple months. You're now in the crib, and doing well! Each morning, I hear you making noise, and when I come in, you are always standing there along the side, smiling and laughing. You are just such a happy girl.

You love your big brother. He loves to make you laugh. My heart bursts each time I see the two of you laughing together. I know as you get older, things may not always be as smooth between the two of you... so I'm enjoying this while it lasts. I love seeing you play with Liam's old toys, such as his musical activity table. It's fun to see the two of you playing at that table together. Liam is very protective of you at daycare. He likes to find a toy for you to play with each morning, and he stays by you so the other big kids don't come so close. I love that he tries to shield you from them.

I love you more than words can ever express, sweet girl. This is the first of many, many more letters to come.

Love,
Mommy
