Dear Libby,
You are now two years old! Such a big girl! I can hardly believe it. You are such an amazing, independent, stubborn, happy, loving, snuggly, and beautiful girl. I couldn't possibly love you any more. For your birthday, you got a tea set... and lots and lots of Frozen stuff, including books, pajamas, and even big girl underpants. I have a feeling you'll be wearing them soon! You've gone poopy on the potty twice now. No pee yet, but I'm sure you'll be ready for that before we know it.
You've been sleeping better! We had a rough first week or so, about a month ago, when we started forcing you to stay in your room at night. You now go to sleep in your bed, with me sitting in the rocking chair. If you wake up during the night, you usually just want to be rocked for a few minutes, and then you get back in your bed and go to sleep. Amazing!
You had your two year well check yesterday. You haven't gained any weight in the last 6 months, but you're still in the 75th percentile. I think your height was also 75th percentile... and your head is in the 90th percentile. It's all those brains in there!
You love to try to get dressed lately. Even if you're just sitting around watching TV, you're always busy taking your socks and slippers on and off. You like to try to help put on your clothes in the mornings, and your pajamas at night.
You're talking more and more every day. You don't talk at all at daycare, but I think you probably will do so soon. I think you just feel shy there, and I don't blame you. It's a big, noisy, crazy place.
Christmas is coming soon, and I have a feeling you'll get even more Frozen stuff. You are seriously obsessed. At bedtime, I now not only have to sing "Sunshine" to you, but also "Let It Go." You like to try to sing along- you seem to know the last word of every line. It's pretty adorable.
I love you so much, my sweetheart.
Love,
Mommy

Two quick things
Dear Libby,
I totally forgot to mention in my letter yesterday- you pooped on the potty for the first time a few days ago! You haven't even peed on the potty, but you pooped! I could tell you were going to need to poop soon, so I set you on the potty, and you just did it. Amazing. You've yelled "poo poo!" a few times since, and have taken me by the hand and dragged me to the bathroom, and you've sat there for awhile, but nothing's happened again since. But, I'm so proud of you, and I know you'll get it soon!
Last night, you crawled out of your crib. So... life as I know it is over. Ha! Liam NEVER did that. I'm pretty sure he'd be happy to still be sleeping in a crib if I let him! You stinker! All of a sudden I realized you were banging on the door. You tried to climb out two more times overnight, so this morning Daddy converted your crib to a toddler bed. I am soooooo not ready for this!
You're a stubborn and strong-willed little thing, but man, do I ever love you.

Mommy

My poor little sicky
Dear Libby,
You have been SO sick! Last week, I had to take you to the doctor for croup. We had a few really scary nights! You couldn't breathe, and had to sleep sitting up in the recliner with me or Daddy. The doctor appointment was horrible- they had you do a nebulizer treatment, and you went INSANE. I've never seen anything like it. You acted like a wild animal. It was so hard to try to hold you for it. It made me cry. Then you were on steroids for a few days afterwards, and they made you completely crazy too. It was like you couldn't even control your body- you would hit me and just fling your body around. It was terrible. I hate to see you in pain!
You've also been teething hardcore. You take your pacifier and hold it and turn it sideways and gnaw away at it. I'm scared you're going to bite the tip off! You got a new tooth on top a couple weeks ago, and I think the same one on the other side must be coming in too. You still only have 11 teeth! I have no idea how you eat as well as you do with so few teeth.
Your vocabulary continues to grow and grow. At daycare, they oftentimes tell me that you never speak there. I don't think they believe me when I say that you know LOTS of words! You need to speak up and make yourself heard!
I love you, sweetheart.

Mommy

Whoa! Too long!
Dear Libby,
I've been a bad mommy! It's been way too long since I've posted here! We've been so busy the last few months, with Liam starting kindergarten. Things are settling down now, and we're getting into our new routine. I think you're loving all the extra time you get with me alone in the car now. For about the first week after Liam started kindergarten, when I'd pick you up at daycare at the end of the day, you'd go to the big kid side of the playground and wander around and say, "Liam! Liam! Where are you?" It was adorable and heartbreaking at the same time. Now, I think you're finally used to the fact that he isn't there anymore. You love going into his school to pick him up from aftercare. Every day, you run up to him and give him a hug and a kiss. You love your big brother so much.
You started music class a couple weeks ago. You're a bit wild... but you're having so much fun! You love to dance and move, and you definitely aren't a fan of having to sit still at any point. You love playing the musical instruments at each class, and climbing on the climbing equipment at the end.
You are picking up more and more words all the time. I love hearing you say "soccer," and "pizza," and especially when you say your own name and point at yourself.
You are now in the big toddler room all the time at daycare. You love to point our your cubby each morning, and you yell out, "cubby!". I hope that being in that room will help you continue to learn new words.
Your sleep has continued to be, well, terrible most nights. I took you to the doctor a few weeks ago, and he said that nothing's really wrong, and that we should just let you cry it out, since it's just behavioral. But, we aren't doing that. Some nights, you sleep through the night, but many others, you'll be awake for 2-3 hours at a time in the middle of the night. Mommy and Daddy are exhausted... you need to start sleeping, baby girl!
Even though you're killing me with the lack of sleep, you know I love you more than words could ever express. I love you, Libbers.

Words words words!
Dear Libby,
You are learning so many new words! In just the last couple weeks, I swear your vocabulary has tripled. It's amazing! You're also finally starting to mimick words. After so many months of ear problems, including a couple more months of problems AFTER getting your tubes, I think your ears are finally healed... and so you are finally hearing well! You can say lots of words like apple, banana, pizza, bowl, ball, car, Elmo, book, and more. You also started calling me Mommy (instead of Mama) earlier this week. It's so adorable... but it seems like such a big girl thing to do! It's funny to hear, because you put the accent on the second syllable. Adorable.
You're still nursing before bed, and during the night just once in awhile. You've been sleeping horribly for months. I just keep hoping it will end. You'll have nights where you'll be awake for HOURS in the middle of the night. Bringing you to our bed doesn't seem to help- you just stand up in bed and try to walk around! Either Daddy or I end up taking you to the recliner in the living room, where you usually fall back asleep sooner or later. Some days, I just don't even understand how you make it through the day, after having had so little sleep. At least Daddy and I can drink some coffee to keep ourselves going!
I feel like the summer is flying by. In previous years, I would have felt like we still had another 2 months of summer after this point. But, this year, your big brother starts kindergarten on August 4. That's just over 3 weeks away. CRAZY! We haven't even been to the pool yet, for heaven's sake! I just feel like time is slipping away, and I can't stop it. I just want to have as much time with you as possible, and every day just goes by to quickly. Makes me sad.
I love you more than you could possibly ever imagine, sweet girl.

Mommy

My big girl
Dear Libby,
You are suddenly such a big girl! I feel like your nightly nursing session before bed is the last thing that still makes you my "baby"... and I have a feeling that will end very soon. You are one tough little girl. You really hold your own with your big brother. I love to see you two together! Seeing your legs in shorts, now that the weather is warmer, just makes you look even taller. Some days I can hardly believe how fast time is flying.
You got tubes almost two weeks ago. I hope that they make a huge difference for you. The ENT said that your ears were full of cement-like fluid, and that your hearing had probably been reduced by at least 30-40%. My poor girl. One of your ears bled for a few days, and there is still really icky fluid coming out of it. I really hope that it isn't infected again.
You've already started talking more just in the two weeks since you got the tubes. You now can point and say ball. You're learning where more of your body parts are, other than just your nose, which you've known for months. You're starting to eat well with a spoon. You are a heck of a climber. You climbed all the way up into your high chair earlier this week, and you also are pretty good at climbing chainlink fences. I've got to keep an eye on you every second!
I love you, Monkey.

Squeezes!
Dear Libby,
You love love love to give really tight squeezes right now, and it is pretty much the most freaking adorable thing EVER. You squeeze me around my neck so super tight, and you laugh and laugh. You are such a little lovebug.
You adore Elmo. You are like a moth to the flame when I turn on Sesame Street. You just stand motionless in front of the TV. You also have about 10 different books with Elmo, and you love to read them.
You love reading books. I think that's what we spend most of our time doing. You also like dumping things out (like blocks from a bucket, or game pieces from a box). You may then pick them back up... but you immediately dump them out again. You also like playing with your picnic set.
You are starting to talk. You like to say "all done." You're starting to mimic the first sounds of words. I think you'll have a language explosion really soon...
You have had a rough few weeks. Two back to back double ear infections, and hand, foot, and mouth. All at the same time. Your HFM was almost all in your diaper area, and it was TERRIBLE. Ugh. You poor thing. Next week you will be seeing the ENT to discuss getting tubes. I'm not looking forward to that, but I'm sure they'll really help you, like they helped Liam.
Love you, sweet girl.

How are you almost 14 months old?!
Dear Libby,
Time is flying. FLYING, I tell you! This morning, as I got you out of your carseat at daycare, you looked at me... and you looked like such a big girl. You aren't a baby anymore! The babies at daycare look TINY compared to you! I put you down at daycare, and you walk off with Liam, and it looks like you totally hold your own with the big kids. Amazing. But... I'm not ready for you to be so big! You're my last baby, and I'm not ready for you to NOT be a baby anymore!
You are so busy all the time. You walk everywhere. You'll want to be picked up, but the second I pick you up, you want to get back down. You just never stop moving. When I nurse you in the mornings, it may last 3-5 minutes, at most, and then the second you're done, you're DONE, and you sit up and slide of my lap and take off again. You make me tired just watching you.
Oh, Libbers. I just love you so much, my sweet girl. You are becoming this amazing little person. I can't wait to see what you become.
Love,
Mommy

Walking!!!
Dear Libby,
You're walking now, sweet girl! You'd been taking upt to about 10 steps for about a month or so, but you finally really "got it" on Liam's birthday, and the long weekend that followed. We ended up being stuck at home for a very long weekend, due to my work being closed for two days. I will forever be thankful that I had that time off so that I could witness you learning to walk. I love watching your wide-legged, wobbly little self lurch across the room. And you're SO proud of yourself when you make it where you want to go. Your face lights up and you screech at the top of your lungs.
You got your first pair of real shoes this weekend. You're wearing them at daycare today. You just stood there in them when we tried them this weekend... but didn't really walk. You stood there and looked at your feet, and it was like they were glued to the floor. Hopefully you started walking around in them at school! You have to get used to them, now that you're actually walking! They are pink Stride Rite Mary Janes... and they are totally adorable. Just like you.
I love you!
